Online Atlanta Apartment Searching

There’s no doubt that the Internet has changed the way we do many things and online Atlanta apartment searching can be an incredible time saver. Before you use this as your only option, consider that there are some downsides and there are some things you should simply watch out for.
“I’m tall, dark and handsome, and looking for a serious relationship.”
Just as it’s easy for a person to misrepresent himself (or herself) in Internet chat rooms, it’s easy for a real estate agent or Atlanta apartment manager to misrepresent an Atlanta apartment in an online site. That doesn’t at all mean that it’s a flagrant lie. The short balding dude who is still actually married may see himself in the mirror as tall, dark and handsome, and he may have every intention of going through with the divorce to get on with his next serious relationship. While that’s a stretch for a normal person to believe, the same principle applies to those posting Atlanta apartment information on online sites. It’s a person doing the posting and that means that there’s plenty of room for error, whether it’s on purpose or not. While that doesn’t mean there aren’t some who accurately represent what they’re offering, it should be a warning to never take online advertisements at face value without checking it out for yourself.
“Quaint Atlanta apartment with potential”
It’s also vital that you speak “real estate-ese” before you shop. If you don’t already have that language at your disposal, you’ll soon pick it up. “Quaint” usually means small and may also refer to the outdated kitchen cabinets that have never been updated. While that same language is used in all kinds of real estate advertising, it’s more important if you’re depending fully on the ads. The bottom line is that it’s not a good idea to depend fully on the online advertising as your basis for selecting an Atlanta apartment.
“Take a look at me”
The beauty of online shopping for an Atlanta apartment is that you can literally take a look inside without braving the rain or paying the cab fare or spending hours looking at Atlanta apartments that simply won’t work for you. Online advertisements usually come with the added advantage of both photos and virtual tours. These are wonderful real estate tools, but there’s a problem - depth perception. No matter how good the photographer is, the resulting photo is a two-dimensional image. Put that on your computer screen as part of a virtual tour and you can manipulate your point of view, but you still have a two-dimensional photo. That means that you’re not going to fully realize how small the “den” that’s being touted as a selling point really is until you step inside.
“I‘m in great shape”
The guy who sends a snapshot to his newly-found lady friend online is going to tuck in that beer gut as much as possible. The lady, in turn, is going to look up at the camera from what appears to be a seductive angle but is, in fact, meant to hide the fact that she is skinny as a rail. Likewise, the real estate agent who posts the Atlanta apartment profile online is going to take photos from the best possible angle. That means you’re not going to see that the cabinets just to the left are in disrepair or that the toilet, under the out-dated fluffy toilet cover, is pink.
“Once bitten, twice shy”
Just because you find an Atlanta apartment that wasn’t at all what you’d expected, you shouldn’t give up on online searching. In fact, if you understand the language, remember that things can be misrepresented and follow up anything interesting with a personal tour, you’ll find that the Internet - once again - has made shopping much more convenient.
