Maximizing Atlanta Apartment Space
Apr 18th, 2008 by atlanta apartments
Atlanta Apartment living has limitations in terms of space. In the United States, floor size of apartments average around 80 square meters. There are a large number of smaller units than the average. As urbanization pushes human dwelling to become smaller, we have to maximize whatever space that is available to us.
To get the most from your Atlanta apartment, before anything else, sort out your things and purge those that you do not need or use anymore. Most people, not only Atlanta apartment dwellers, do not realize how much space one’s junk can take in a house. Get rid of that sentimentality and get rid of the junk. For apartment dwellers, every square foot is important and unused items can easily cramp you in your unit.
Buy furniture that is proportional to the size of the room. The biggest mistake is to buy an overindulgent sofa for a rather small apartment. Bulky furniture occupy too much space that is much needed in a limited Atlanta apartment.
Consider hide-away or push away furniture. Foldable tables and chairs can give you floor space once you are done using them for mealtimes. Likewise, tables that are square or rectangular may be pushed against the wall.
Invest in dual purpose furniture. There are many available furniture pieces that serve a double purpose, sometimes even triple or quadruple. Should you live in a studio apartment, you may want to consider investing in a day bed or a sofa bed that may serve as seating in the day and a bed for sleeping at night.
Use you vertical space. It is the space often forgotten and unused. Maximizing vertical space would mean less clutter and more floor area to walk upon. Wall shelves are the most basic article in maximizing vertical space. Racks in the kitchen and bathroom give better access to your things aside from reducing clutter. Hooks are your best friends in the kitchen: you may hang your pots, pans and even your utensils giving at least 1 cabinet free. For studio apartments, recently available in the market are loft beds. Loft beds are like bunk beds only the lower space is maximized as say, office space or a cabinet. Manufacturers claim to free 26 square feet of floor space using loft beds. For those who do not prefer loft beds will find any bed with space underneath a good place for storage.
Look for space in hidden spaces, such as the top of cabinets, or at the back of closets and the back of doors. There are available canvass shoe racks or pockets that may be attached behind doors with a hook for under $30.
Most important of all: keep things organized. All the extra storage is of no use if not maximized. Avoid clutter build up. Return things from where they are supposed to be placed. Keep your seasonal things in one container, label and put them away until they are need.
Every square feet is valuable in an Atlanta apartment but do not underestimate its holding capacity. Every nook and cranny can be useful in storage without cramping the tenant.
