Feng Shui and Atlanta Apartment Decorating
Jun 5th, 2008 by atlanta apartments
Feng Shui is becoming an increasingly important aspect considered in decorating decisions and there are plenty of ways to include Feng Shui principles in your Atlanta apartment decorating plans. Even if you have to do some things on a smaller scale, the ideas of Feng Shui will typically work in your Atlanta apartment just as if you had a large home.
Start at the Beginning
Your door is the way opportunities will arrive into your life and home. With that in mind, it’s easy to see why the area immediately inside your Atlanta apartment is important to the overall Feng Shui of your home. What you do here depends entirely on your floor plan. If your door opens directly into the living room, you may need to create a smaller entrance way so that opportunities don’t immediately disperse into the room and out of your grasp. But if you have a foyer or a hall immediately inside your door, be careful that it’s not restricted. If that’s the case, opportunities may not be able to make their way inside at all. Remember that every door that’s used as an entry should receive your attention when it comes to Feng Shui decoration.
Don’t Turn Your Back on Opportunity
Remember that opportunity is likely to enter your life through the doorway. With that in mind, it’s important to arrange living room furniture so that you and your guests are facing the doorway. Think it’s impossible? Take another look. Is your television the focal point of the room? Better to sit sideways on the furniture when it’s time to watch television than to turn the back of the couch toward the door. If facing the door is truly not possible, create some sort of reflective wall so that you always see the doorway from your seat. Mirrors, mirrored tile or any polished surface will suffice and could be a dramatic touch to your décor.
Water and Your Atlanta Apartment
In Feng Shui, water summons money and financial prosperity. Typically, a decorator will use a water fountain as a way to use water in the décor but that may be a problem when it comes to decorating your Atlanta apartment. If space or even building regulations are an issue, don’t despair. There are other ways to bring water into your Atlanta apartment. Choose a large vase, over-sized brandy snifter, or other container as a place for water. You can add colored rocks, greenery, small fish (a beta is well suited to this small environment) and even a small fish tank air pump to create a miniature water scene. Remember that in Feng Shui decorating, large and elaborate isn’t required to achieve the desire effect.
Atlanta Apartment Calm
If you’re seeking to create a calm atmosphere, rounded edges and smooth surfaces are vital. This doesn’t equate to boring - quite the opposite! Your Atlanta apartment can become a haven for family and guests as well as a serene place for you to fully relax. Choose wall décor in simplistic, rounded frames. Oval mats can help lessen the square impact of traditional frames for family photos. Don’t forget to look down. Rounded or oval rugs will ease the drama of a room.
The Color of the Elements
In Feng Shui, there are five basic elements - wood, earth, fire, water and metal. Each has a different color and each promotes a different result. While an overall calming effect is very common, adding touches of the other elements can be beneficial. Color in the form of throw pillows, rugs, artwork, candles, flowers or wall paint can serve this purpose. And remember that it’s okay to experiment. With an Atlanta apartment room that exudes calm, you can easily add or change elements as your life and needs change.
