Atlanta Apartment Decorating for Beginners

The next best thing to having your own place is decorating it with your own style. Some get overexcited by this thought and end up with a confused décor and/or too much furniture. Some go “minimalist” but end up making their Atlanta apartment look like a hospital room. Here are some steps to make decorating your Atlanta apartment easier:
1.) Know your Décor Style. Your Atlanta apartment ideally should reflect our personal tastes and style. Maybe we want the sleek, minimalist look of assemble-it-yourself pieces from Ikea, or an eclectic collection of flea market finds. Either way, choose a décor style and run with it.
2.) Be familiar with the space you will be decorating. Draw a floor plan of your Atlanta apartment in scale. Measure everything. DO NOT rely on your visual memory. With the representation of the room, it is possible to determine the sizes of furniture you have or that you wish to purchase.
3.) Establish a budget range. The guidelines of a budget save not only your wallet. Make sure you have enough money to pay the rent for the following months.
4.) Make a checklist of what you need. And determine where you are going to buy it. This will save time and gas in running around the city. You need not buy everything in your checklist at once, but at least you have an idea what you need later on. Keep those paint and fabric samples when you go around stores. These may come handy later on in coordinating it with your furniture, lighting and accessories, whether shopping online or in a brick and mortar store.
5.) Decorate that wall. The last thing you want is a bare wall. You paid for an Atlanta apartment, not a prison cell. Check with your landlord or your contract if you may paint the walls or put up wallpaper. If not, don’t fret, you may be allowed to put up framed pictures or posters on your wall. A great decorating idea that is an alternative to wallpaper or painting is to use a column of fabric on the wall using a staple gun.
6.) Remember your Window Treatment. Curtains or blind are essential in giving you privacy and blocking or letting in light. It is the key to giving it an open and airy feeling while also blocking out neighbors or traffic noises Decide what your needs are and then look for the window treatment that best fits them. If you are the sewing type, most fabric stores have deep discounts on older fabrics, sheets are fairly inexpensive and can be turned into beautiful curtains and shower curtains look great, especially when trimmed to fit smaller windows.
7.) Think of storage. Atlanta apartments tend to have limited storage options, so you’ll have to get creative and find your own solutions. Modular shelves are available at most home decorating stores and don’t cost much. If you want to boost their appeal, buy unfinished ones and paint them yourself. Step out of the box for other storage ideas and consider using storage cubes as footstools or coffee tables, or to hide things under your bed; put tables or storage solutions in unexpected spots: a storage box placed near a tub gives you ample storage for bath supplies and properly decorated, it totally belongs.
8.) Floor treatment. Think of what you want on your floors. If you are rather content with you flooring, consider area rugs with designs or colors that may complement your flooring. If your floors are less than perfect, consider carpeting or vinyl flooring.
9.) Think of your furniture. With an established décor theme and a checklist, finding the right furniture shouldn’t be hard. Be very particular with your measurements. First timers often have the mistake of buying 6 inches more than what they need and they end up not fitting into the room.
With these basic steps, you’re all set for a simple yet stylish Atlanta apartment.
