Once you have managed to find an Atlanta apartment of your choice, do not be in a haste to move in. Before you proceed to sign the lease contract with your landlord, it is essential that you perform a few vital checks inside the Atlanta apartment. This will prove to be beneficial for you in the long run and will also save you from a considerable amount of trouble in the future. On inspection, if you come across any kind of problems, inform the landlord so that he can have it fixed before you move in. Given below is rough guideline that you can use while inspecting your Atlanta apartment:
1. Starting with the entrance, check if the lock on the door works properly. You may even consider having the original lock changed for security reasons.
2. Then proceed to check the floorings, walls and ceilings. See if there are any stains on the hardwood flooring and check the carpets as well for cleanliness. Make sure there are no dents, holes or cracks in the walls and ceilings. And in case there are, have these fixed by the landlord. Ensure that the wallpaper or wall paint is in good condition.
3. Confirm that the electricity and lights are in proper working order. Besides ensuring that the electricity switches and all lights are functioning, also check to see if the air conditioner and ceiling fan is in good shape. Don’t forget to pay attention to minor details like whether there is a phone jack in each room and if there is a cable connection for the TV.
4. Proceeding to the kitchen, check the water pressure and for any leaking water faucets. Verify if all the electronic appliances in the kitchen like the refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave and the stove are working properly. Not only should they be well-maintained and clean but also should not make too much of noise.
5. The same applies to the bathrooms also. Follow similar guidelines in this room of the Atlanta apartment as well and check the water pressure and leaking valves and faucets. Check the shower for hot water. Test the toilets too see if they are also working fine.
6. In order to ensure your safety, see if the windows are sound and safe with proper locks. Verify if the intercom is working or not. Confirm that the smoke detectors and other security alarms are functioning properly. Scrutinize the Atlanta apartment for signs of any health hazards.
7. In addition to all the above you may also want to know if there are amenities like the Laundromat or other kitchen appliances available for use by the occupants. ‘Tenant friendly’ facilities on the premises can prove to be an added advantage.
In case, if you do find any problems inside the Atlanta apartment or have any other issues, be sure to have them resolved or fixed by the landlord before you move into your new Atlanta apartment.
